Mobile-first approach: the key to modern web design
How to design sites that look great on all devices and improve conversions.
Over 65% of traffic to Montenegrin websites comes from phones. Despite that, most sites are still designed “for desktop, then shrunk”. The mobile-first approach reverses the process: the smallest screen is designed first, then space is added.
Why it changes the outcome
A design that starts mobile must choose priorities: what does the visitor actually need in the first 3 seconds? The answer — contact, price or a button — comes before decoration. The result is faster sites, higher conversion and better Google results, as mobile-first indexing has long been the standard.
Rules we practice
- Tap targets (buttons, links) minimum 44×44 px — large enough for a thumb.
- Typography readable without zooming — base size 16 px+.
- Heavy elements (sliders, video) lazy — they load when needed.
- Testing on real devices, not just the browser “responsive” tool.
Every site leaving our studio passes this check — see how we do web design.
