SSL certificates — everything you need to know
Why SSL is mandatory, what types of certificates exist and how to protect your users.
Without SSL, browsers flag your site as “Not secure” — and 84% of users leave before reading a single word. SSL is no longer optional: it is a requirement for Google rankings, online payments and basic trust.
Types of certificates
- DV (Domain Validation) — proves you control the domain. Free (Let's Encrypt) or cheap, sufficient for most sites.
- Wildcard — covers all subdomains (`*.yourdomain.me`). Paid, but saves effort on multi-site setups.
- OV/EV — also verifies the legal entity. Needed by banks and larger systems; rarely justified for a standard site.
In practice
On all our hosting packages DV SSL is included and renews automatically — you never have to think about it. Wildcard is included in Professional, Business+ and Enterprise packages. If you already have a certificate elsewhere, we transfer it free during migration.
Common mistakes
Mixed content (HTTP resources on an HTTPS page), an expired certificate due to a forgotten renewal, and HTTPS that works while HTTP does not redirect — all three cost you visitors or rankings. Our infrastructure resolves them automatically.
